Robin has been a kindergarten teacher for the last 5 years. Previous to that, she taught first and second grade for 9 years. This is Robin's 6 year as a Lead teacher in the Johnston School District. During her time on the leadership team, Robin has facilitated the Tier 1 behavior team and helped implement school-wide behavior systems. For the past 3 years, Robin has been a member of the Johnston district Standard's Based Mindset team. Members on this team complied research to implement new grading practices throughout the Johnston School District. Robin has facilitated meetings at both the elementary and secondary levels that have educated staff on the benefits of Standards Based Grading. As a parent and an educator, Robin is invested in this work because of the importance it plays in helping ALL students learn, not just earn grades.

Kara has been a general classroom teacher at Wallace Elementary School since the Fall of 2006 where she currently teaches 3rd grade and is an active member on the building's Instructional Leadership Team where best practices such as SBG are discussed and assessed regularly. Daily, Kara implements the TCRWP learning progressions in both Reading and Writing workshop which structures the language arts progress for all students, families, and teachers. She is also a contributor to the Johnston's Science Committee, where she has focused on creating SBG rubrics based on NGSS standards for district use. As a parent and educator within the district, Kara sees the benefits of SBG as it clearly defines levels of mastery to assess children's instructional needs that allows clear communication between all stakeholders.
